When I ask people this question, I often get confused looks. In today’s fast-paced world, we’re so focused on instant gratification and productivity that we lose sight of something crucial: ourselves. We live in a society that praises multitasking, but this constant juggling takes a toll on our brain, stress levels, and overall mental health.

Start with the Basics
If self-care feels foreign to you, begin small. Look at your sleep patterns and nutrition first. Did you know that nearly 1 in 3 adults don't get enough sleep? Sleep deprivation and poor eating habits can wreak havoc on your energy, mood, and mental well-being. Prioritizing these basics can transform how you feel and function each day.
Next up: exercise. Even just 10 minutes of movement can elevate your mood and reduce stress. It doesn’t have to be complicated—a walk around the block or a few stretches can do wonders.
Stay hydrated too. Your brain is about 75% water, and even slight dehydration can affect concentration and energy levels. So, drink up!
Beyond the Basics
Once you've established these foundational habits, it's time to explore what makes you feel truly cared for. What do you do for yourself? For me, it’s all about taking Epsom salt baths, spending time in nature, creating new experiences, and enjoying moments with my kids, husband, and close friends. These activities recharge my mind, body, and spirit.
Self-Care Isn’t Selfish
Self-care is not a luxury; it's a necessity. By prioritizing our well-being, we ensure we can show up as the best versions of ourselves—whether at work, on the road, or with our loved ones. When I need extra care, I schedule a massage or, for quicker relief, vent to someone I trust—an incredibly cathartic release. Even in situations where I can’t physically step away, like during a meeting, I’ll practice simple muscle relaxation techniques. By tensing and releasing different muscle groups, I can ease tension and regain a sense of calm, no matter where I am.
Whether it’s carving out a few minutes a day or dedicating more time to deeper relaxation, pick what works for you. You—and your mind, body, and spirit—deserve it!
